Resources
Here are some of my favorite e.d. (eating disorder) sites. This is just the tip of the iceberg, though! There's lots of great stuff out there.
EDAP
Eating Disorder Awareness & Prevention
The US's largest non-profit organization devoted to the awareness
and prevention of eating disorders.
Good information, as well as positive body image programs for
elementary grades & up.

Books and resources on eating disorders online!
NEDIC
National Eating Disorders Information Centre (Canada)
Information & resources on eating disorders & weight
preoccupation. They focus on the first step down the "eating
disorder path": dieting!
NEDO
National Eating Disorder Organization (US)
NEDO merged with EDAP in August of 1999, but you can still go to
their site for great information.
Real Women
"Real Women is a multi-sensory exploration of body image and
its profound impact on women's health and well being. It is a
series of 13 small bronze sculptures and poems portraying women
of diverse size, shape, culture and age."
Something Fishy
A great site that has info on everything! Chats, online support,
music and all kinds of information for e.d. sufferers and their
friends & family. Their links
page is second to none.
Here's a list of books (in alphabetical order) I highly recommend.
Backlash by Susan
Faludi
This is the book that helped me understand the ridiculous
expectations the media and society have for women's bodies.
The Beauty Myth by
Naomi Wolf
Another great book that points out these absurd demands. Although
The Beauty Myth & Backlash are large, they are
very "episodic" reads.
The Difference by
Judy Mann
We live in a culture that gives equal opportunites to kids, no
matter what their gender - right? Not according to Judy Mann!
Fire with Fire by
Naomi Wolf
If The Beauty Myth only pointed out the problems, Ms. Wolf
offers some solutions in this book.
Hunger Pains by Mary
Pipher
From the author of Reviving Ophelia comes a great book
that focuses on eating disorders.
Ophelia Speaks by
Sara Shandler
After Ms. Shandler read Dr. Pipher's best selling book, Reviving
Ophelia, she decided to put together writings by teenaged
women. How telling that the largest section deals with e.d.'s.
Reviving Ophelia by
Mary Pipher
A very important book, especially if you're raising a female in
today's society.
Wasted by Marya
Hornbacher
This is the book that inspired me to write Hand to Mouth.
When Women Stop Hating Their
Bodies by Jane Hirschmann with Carol Munter
I cannot recommend this book enough! As trite as this may sound, When
Women Stop Hating Their Bodies changed my life.
