H2M Timeline
March 1998
The decision to write Hand to Mouth was made while I read Marya Hornbachers memoir, Wasted. Her incredible story inspired me to tell my own. Theatre is a powerful tool I knew my story would fit well with the medium.
The whole process of writing the show took about a year: from the spring of 1998 through the spring of 1999. At the end of the year, I workshopped my show (or what I had so far) with Mr. Carl Moores Advanced Theatre Arts class at Lee High School here in Midland, Texas.
February - April 1999
Over the course of 6 weeks, the students gave me invaluable feedback on my work, as well as the subject of eating disorders. Not a day went by that I didnt leave the classroom feeling inspired and grateful. In the other part of the workshop, the students wrote their own monologues. At the end of the process, we performed our work for the public in a show we called Though Different Windows. Hand to Mouth was the first act and the students monologues were the second.
August - November 1999
Dan Green, Director of Fine Arts for the Midland independent School District was so impressed with the show that he invited us to perform Though Different Windows for a speech / drama teacher in service day in August of 1999. Though Different Windows was also invited to perform at the International Thespian Societys 1999 Texas conference in Corpus Christi in November.
